Ten Reasons You Should Pick Up a Book

Published by thesuester at 8:59 pm under books, lists Edit This

  1. You could learn something. Believe it or not, books are a great source of information, no matter the subject matter. Pick up a non-fiction book and learn about a person or event you don’t know much about. Even a fiction book provides the opportunity to expand your vocabulary.
  2. Explore far away places. If the world around you is dull or boring, a book can to you to a far away place (and you can get books for free at the library!)
  3. Books are great to curl up in bed with and read before you go to bed.
  4. Take them just about anywhere! Read in the bathtub, on the toilet, on the beach, in a car (if you don’t get car sick like me), in a train, or on a plane. I’d like to see you try to do that with a laptop computer.
  5. If you own the book, you can write in it. Underline favorite passages or make notes to remind you of stuff.
  6. Books have character. Admit it: new books smell awesome. Used books/books from the library have so much history to them: did the previous owner love it? Where has it been?
  7. Look smarter. People who read in public look cool, so make sure to take a book with you the next time you have to wait for something in a public place. People who just stare into space are clearly uncool.
  8. You can make use of those really cool bookmarks you have sitting around. Or, you can buy or make your own!
  9. Have something to talk about. Join a book club, or simply discuss a book with a friend. You’ll have tons of fun, and be able to have an informed discussion.
  10. Finishing a book feels like a huge accomplishment. It feels fulfilling to finally reach the end and be able to put the book down. If it’s a good book, the experience will be bittersweet because you also won’t want the book to be over.
